Hello, I am Dr. Rhee Sewhan, the Head Doctor of Grand Plastic Surgery.

Q1. What is ideal implant size (cc) for natural breast augmentation?

When choosing implant size, you have to take into consideration your height, body type, location of the breasts and size of rib cage, not just the size of the implant in cc.

As you can see, there are devices that can be tried on to see which size implant may be suitable for you.

It is advisable to get surgery after you figure out what size implant would achieve which ideal shape and size.

Q2. What are some types of breast implants?

Breast implants can be divided into saline implant and cohesive gel implant.

Nowadays, we rarely use saline implant.

And cohesive gel implant is used most of the times.

Among Cohesive Gel implants, there are textured type where the surface of the implant is rough and smooth type where the surface is smooth.

Among textured-type, there are round-shaped and teardrop-shaped implant.

Generally, teardrop shaped implant is in textured type surface.

If you look at each implant’s pros and cons, as for smooth type, the surface is smooth and it feels softer to touch.

However, capsule surrounding the implant is more likely to form.

So there is slightly higher chance of capsular contracture.

Therefore, textured type is more commonly used than the smooth type nowadays.

As for textured type, it has the pro of extremely low chance of capsular contracture.

However, it may feel harder to touch.

Therefore, those who have very thin body type may be better off with smooth type.

Otherwise, texture type implant is more commonly used.

 

Q3. Depending on the breast shape, there are round-shaped and teardrop-shaped implant. How are they different?

Circular or round shaped implant really have round shape.

Teardrop-shaped implant however,as you see here, has more protrusion on the lower part. So the teardrop-shaped implant takes on this shape.

Round type implant is suitable for sunken upper breast

and commonly used for those who lack on the upper breast after breast feeding.           Also, if the breasts are located slightly lower than the average, using round type implant would be more advisable.

On the other hand, if the breasts are higher up and if the lower breast volume is not sufficient, teardrop-shaped implant would help to achieve more natural looking breasts.

Q4. When getting breast surgery, which incision would be suitable for me?                                  

Generally, most common incision method are armpit incision and under breast crease incision.

As for armpit incision, the scar can be hidden on the armpit region, leaving no scar on the breasts. This incision method is often more preferred by young women.

Under breast crease incision method is preferred by older women because they already have under breast crease and incision line may be hidden under the line.

If the areola is too big or the breasts look too droopy,

large areola can be reduce and surgery can be performed through areola incision.

 

Q5. How long should I wear supportive garment after the breast surgery?

After the surgery, supportive garment is usually worn until 1 month after the surgery.

Depending on how much space is made and the implant is settled into place,

the garment may be worn until 3 months after the surgery.

For revision surgery cases, since we have to close up existing inner space, the supportive garment may be worn longer than the above.

Generally, for the primary breast surgery, the supportive garment is worn

up until 1 month after the surgery.

Q6. What are some things to be careful of after breast surgery?

Bleeding inside after the surgery increases the chance of capsular contracture.

Therefore, first 1 week is critical for recovery.

Initially after the surgery, it is important to get bandaged on the breast

and minimize arm movement to prevent blood forming inside.

Light exercise or jogging may be done 3 ~ 4 weeks after the surgery. As for any exercise that uses arms should be avoided until 3 months after the surgery.

Part 1, His Story Before the Surgery

“ I was getting tired of my trademark cutsie image”

My dream is to become a movie director. Before I become a director, I wanted to try acting and many other things. Whenever I audition for a role, I was assigned cute younger brother type character all the time rather than masculine roles.

Tired of being stereotyped as cute boy next door character, I decided to go ahead with nose surgery.

My nose was slightly deviated to the right. So while I was looking to correct the problem, I also looked for the hospital that is good at male rhinoplasty.

“Now it is not uncommon 

for guys to get plastic surgery!”

I am quite liberal about view on plastic surgery. So I was not shy to go outside with splint over my nose.

They said the more you go outside and walk around, the faster the swelling will go down. So I did a lot of walking and icing around my face.

At first, the swelling was mainly on my nose area, but day by day, the swelling went down.

So by 1 week after the surgery, there was not much swelling on the nose but around the lips which made me look a little funny.

Part 4, His Story 2 weeks After the Surgery

“Do I look different now?”

I still have minor swelling left so my friends say I look a bit like Avatar. But many of my female friends who have experience with plastic surgery say that once the swelling goes down but nose will look really great. I wasn’t quite sure whether the surgery went as well as I expected because of the swelling. But I feel relieve to know that everyone around thinks the nose turned out great.

When I asked, they said the swelling down process varies depending on the individual. But they said it takes about a month for big swelling to go down and by end of 3 months after the surgery all the minor swelling will start to go down. If I am healing as fast and as well as I am right now, I think even all the minor swelling should down within a month. So I am looking forward to it.

Part 5, His Story 4 weeks after the Surgery

“Nose is not only the center of the face, 

but also so important to a guy!”

Now all the swelling seems to have gone down. Now that my nose bridge is higher, it looks like the distance between my eyes has gotten shorter. Some ask if I did something for my eyes as well.

I didn’t even know what epicanthoplasty is. After my nose surgery, my face looks much slimmer. Everyday, I realize small change on the nose does make a big difference on the overall face and image.

More than anything, I am so happy that the nose shape is just as I wanted.

I really didn’t wanted pixie nose like girls. I wanted masculine straight line nose while correcting the deviation. Now my nose does not look crooked anymore and I am so satisfied that I finally have masculine image that I wished for more than cute boy next-door image.

Part 6 His Story 4 months after the Surgery

“ Do I look masculine now?”

People around me who were against plastic surgery now look at me and say I look much more handsome and masculine.

They say I look like an actor and I notice many good stares when I walk around outside.

Another thing that has changed is my everyday life style. Before the surgery, my nose was slightly crooked so whenever I wake up on the morning, my mouth was so dry. That was because when I had crooked nose, I couldn’t breathe with my nose. Now that that issue is taken care of I feel my life has gotten a lot more convenient.

Last but not least, whatever I do, I feel much more confident and my attitude and approach toward has changed to be more positive.

“Thanks to my nose, my confidence 

and every aspect of my life got better”

I never expected my personality would be changed and be more outgoing  just by undergoing nose surgery.  I feel motivated to meet more people and take initiatives whatever I put my hands on. That’s probably because I have more confidence.

I think for guys, nose is really important. My life is going really well especially after nose surgery. I feel as though I am ready and closer to achieving my dreams.

Part 1 Her Story, Before the Surgery

“People have told me that I look scary.”

It wasn’t uncommon for me to hear that I look scary or look like a guy.

What kind of girl wants to hear that she looks like a guy or scary. I had had enough.

This is all because of my zynormous cheekbone. You know, wide cheekbone makes one’s appearance quite strong and masculine~

So ever since I was teenager, I have not liked taking pictures. Whichever angle I go for, all I notice in my selfies are big cheekbones. It’s too wide and big. It is almost like my cheekbone is in competition with my shoulder. Finally, I made my decision and went in for consultation at Grand.

The doctor said that once prominent cheekbone is reduced, the jaw may appear quite big in comparison. So doctor recommended both cheekbone reduction and v-line square jaw reduction. So I decided to get both of them.

Bunch of troubles = my face

Now that I look back, I wonder how did I live so long with such unhappy face. I should have decided to do the surgery much earlier. I have become more and more discontent with my face after talking to the doctor and realizing the root of my concern.

I could not wait for the day of surgery.

The surgeries being the first surgeries of my life, I was extremely scared. But everything was finished after I woke up. The nurses were very comforting. They were there for me and talking to me until I fall asleep and after I was done with the surgery. Even the doctor who performed my surgeries comforted me so that I could have peace of mind throughout my surgery.

Part 4 Her Story 1 week after the surgery

“I cannot wait to see my face after all these swelling and bruising go down.”

I knew I was the type whose body tend to get swelling easily. However, I was swelling up like crazy after the surgery. My face was literally 3 ~ 4 times its original size right after the surgery. However, I kept telling myself that time heals all wounds and waited patiently. 

I cannot wait to see my face after all these swelling and bruising go down. I kept asking the nurse and the doctor every time I wend for post surgery check up. They said the speed of swelling down process varies depending on the individual. I have seen some people who do not have that much swelling. But all I can do at this point is wait and wait.

Part 5 Her Story 2 weeks after the surgery

“I am starting to see some definition on my face~!”

1 week after the surgery, I started to notice the swelling is going down quite quickly. At first, I was so surprised at how much swelling I had. But after passing certain threshold of time, all the traces of surgery, especially swelling went down dramatically every day. I still have some bruising left but it is not very noticeable. So I can go outside with confidence after some make-up.

I am seriously blown away. In million years, I could not have imagined getting this new facial line. I honestly believe I now have the confidence that I lacked my whole life! I still have puffy cheeks from swelling. I really think my face is going to be so small after all swelling goes down with walking and exercise. I was so scared before the surgery, but now I am beyond satisfied~!

Part 6 Her Story 4 Weeks after the surgery

"I am the epitome of V-line now."

Can you tell my face line has changed? After my facial bone surgery, my nose seems to be higher.

Never in a million year I could have imagined this smooth jaw and cheek-line. I am more than happy with my new facial line!

The aching pain that I used to have around the jaw and cheek is almost gone. I can now open my mouth wide and eat normally as before. People do not really notice whether I have undergone plastic surgery and keep asking if I have lost weight. They keep wondering but cannot really pinpoint what has changed. I guess that is how natural my face looks.

Part 7 Her Story after the surgery

“Please don’t say non-sense like I look like a boy~!”

I used to hate taking pictures but now I love. Now that the prominent cheekbone is gone I look good in whichever angle I take pictures from. Now, nobody says I look masculine or strong.

More than anything, my patents are so happy now. When I first told them I want surgery, they were so against it. But now, they are proud that I had the courage to undergo such surgeries. It was not long ago that they were so anxious about me undergoing surgeries. But now, they almost forgot everything and think I was this pretty originally.

Now I am fully satisfied with my surgery!

Of course the look and aesthetic is an end-goal, but I am so thankful and happy that I can live with confidence without any stress about my look.
